The Titan Post Anchor™ is the first concealed wood post surface mounted anchoring system of its kind.
Use it for deck railings, patio railings or anywhere you need a clean
looking, strong, wood post connection to any surface - wood, composite
or concrete.
| "The Titan has it all. It's got the strength that is what you're looking for but the look is outstanding and combined with the other features I put on this railing system it was the right choice. And I'm happy about that." Bob Evans - Big Rideau Lake, Ontario |

If you are building or replacing a wooden deck, patio railing or a pergola or gazebo and you are considering using ugly metal brackets or anything but beautiful, natural wood then you really should take a quick moment to see what Titan Post Anchors™ are all about.
Simply put, they allow you to have the natural look of wooden posts without worrying about rot or rusty metal brackets. And even though they appear just like regular wooden posts, I've developed an anchor that makes them strong like steel!
I am going to show you exactly how they work but first I'd like to share with you a quick story about how Titan Post Anchors™ came to be...
Why An Intellectual Property Attorney Threw It All Away
I come from a long line of ‘builders'. My father and his father before him were both builders. It's no surprise then that I began building things at a young age. While other friends relied on their fathers to build their tree houses and skateboard ramps, I built my own.
Building has always been in my blood but at one point I thought I might escape it. I went to law school, graduated and excelled in intellectual property law. I worked briefly in a law firm but the truth is that I hated every minute of it.
It was exciting to learn the law and being a lawyer certainly has its perks but it just wasn't for me. I left my law career behind and returned to my roots.
In fact I really never left the building trade. While I was in law school and even while working at the firm I still worked on wood projects for clients on the side. Building, it would seem, was in my blood.
Frustration Is The Mother Of Invention?
Some say necessity is the mother of invention but I think sometimes frustration is. Wooden posts were a huge source of frustration for me. I have a feeling that you and I are kindred spirits if you are reading this. I can almost bet you found this web page because you were looking for a solution to the same frustration.
When doing projects for clients I noticed some recurring issues…
A lot of clients wanted to use wooden posts for their deck railings. While I understood the clients wanting their deck to look as natural and beautiful as possible, there was no good way to securely surface fasten the railing posts without ugly metal brackets. |
||
| Still other clients needed a wooden post fixed to a concrete patio or rock retaining wall or even just to synthetic decking. At the time there was really nothing easy and secure that could accomplish this. This amazed me given the amount of times that something like this was required |
||
Even when I did get the wooden posts attached in a way that looked ‘ok' and that was secure, it was only a matter of time before the posts started to rot from the bottom as the moisture collected
between the joists and deck boards
and worked it's way up the post. Particularly in a wet place like British Columbia, Canada where I lived these posts would begin to rot quicky |
The bottom line was that these wooden posts either looked good OR they were secure and long lasting. It really wasn't possible to have both without a ton of customization, which translated to big money for my clients. And even when I was able to accomplish both objectives, that didn't solve the rot problem.
Style OR Function?
Ironically part of my business was producing building products for homeowners and builders alike. After awhile, instead of being frustrated I sensed an opportunity.
There was clearly a huge need for a product that…
| Was more secure than just using some lag bolts that were awkward to install and never really stood the test of time | ||
| Didn't use visible external metal brackets that would rust out in short order (and they really ruin the look of your deck) | ||
| Would allow you to attach wooden posts to almost any surface in a way that preserved the beauty of the wood without sacrificing security | ||
| Would raise the wood post just enough so that water wouldn't be able to penetrate the wood and cause it to rot |
In essence, what was needed was a product that helped secure wooden posts to a variety of surfaces in a way that was almost invisible yet it was more stable than any other methods currently on the marketing.
Quite a tall order indeed. I sensed an opportunity here - for myself, my customers and anybody else like you who needed a simple solution to these problems.
I'd like to say something romantic like I went to a cabin back in the woods to think in solitude about a product that would fill these needs but that just wasn't the case. The solution came to me one day while working on a job...
The "Secret" To Safely And Securely Fastening Wooden Deck Posts To Any Surface Is To ‘Shove' A Large Enough Piece Of Steel Into The Center Of The Wood Post
I thought that if I could figure out a way to almost mount the wooden post from the inside then it would be safe and secure and look great too. I also figured that if the device used to mount the post would also raise it slightly then it would solve the problem of the posts rotting and they would last a lot longer.
Some people try to mount their posts by screwing a flat plate of metal under the bottom of each post. But this just isn't strong enough. As you can imagine, once a screw is stripped or pulled out of the post under high load, the entire post releases. There is nothing else holding it. Potentially very dangerous!
In order to really stabilize the posts I needed something larger than a lag bolt that was inserted into the wood post. In order to stabilze the posts I needed something larger and with more holding power than just lag screws.
Something that would hold on really tightly and would still be holding on if lags screws ever released. I ended up developing a products that did just that...
What is The Titan Post Anchor™?
The Titan Post Anchor ™ is a revolutionary post anchoring bracket which relies on a concealed internal fastening system that elevates the post off the deck to keep it dry, strong and looking good.
Our patented center tube technology is mechanically fitted into a formed steel base and then welded in place for a super rigid connection. The tube then pierces deep into the solid core of the wood post and is further supported by concealed lag bolts under the base and hidden from view.
Actual Size: 5"x5"x5/8"
Galvanized and Powder Coated

How Titan Post Anchors™ Work - In Under 3 ½ Minutes
What started off as a simple idea (stabilizing and raising wood posts from the inside without impairing function or style) has evolved into a fully finished product that has sold thousands of units.
Installing Titan Post Anchors™ is a simple 2-step process...
Watch these videos on how to attach the Titan Post Anchor ™ to a post. It's quick and easy.
Step 1. Attach the anchor to the post:
As you can see from the video, attaching the anchor to the post is a very simple process.
First you simply drill the outline of the tube to get the anchor started. A lot of people mistakenly think they are drilling a hole here and wonder how this can be secure. If you didn't catch the difference, take a quick watch of the video again.
You are only drilling out the circumference - this acts as a guide to get the anchor started. Then you actually hammer the anchor down into the wood itself. When you actually do this yourself you'll feel how the anchor is really ‘biting' into the wood creating an incredibly strong connection.
Then you simply screw the anchor to the wood as well for some extra stability. This is probably not needed as the magic is in the tube that is inserted into the wood. Given that it is 1 ¼” wide and 3 ½” tall, it is quite secure on it's own.
Then...
Step 2. Attach the post to just about any surface:
In step 1 we fixed the anchor to the post. In step 2 we fix the post to the surface. As you can see from the video, first we make sure the post is level. If it's not, we can simply screw down one side of the anchor more or shim with galvanized washers - depending on whether you are installing on a softer wood or harder concrete surface.
This assures posts are perfectly level or virtually perfect – EVERY TIME. Even if a post is slightly off level, it is pulled into perfect alignment once sections are installed between each post.
This means that you can easily secure your wooden post to wood decks, concrete patios, retaining walls, vinyl decking and any other surface commonly used where you would want a deck railing, a pergola or gazebo post.

Here is the truth: Screws by themslves simply don't do the job.
Why?
Because the tube is over 1.25" in width and is driven deeply into the core of the post, it can not be easily levered or ripped off like ordinary steel plates bolted or screwed to post bases.
Fasteners screwed parallel to the grain of the wood do not have as much holding power and can be pulled out at lower force.
But The Titan Post Anchor ™ is strong. Really strong. And surpasses the building code requirements for guard rails when installed properly.
But those are just the functional qualities. Contact us to see the lab tests if you would like.
For those of you who want something that looks good to the eye, without big wrap around external metal casings at the base of a wood post - the Titan excels. All you see is a clean looking black powder coated base. Unassuming and finished!
The look is fantastic. People actually look at installations and wonder how such a small looking metal base can be so strong. The secret is hidden within the post!

5 Reasons Titan Post Anchors™ Are The Right Tool For Attaching Wooden Posts To Decks And Patios
Now that you know how the Titan Post Anchor™ system works, I'd like to quickly reiterate why you should use them for your deck or patio project...
1. You can secure a wooden post in minutes. There's no messy cutting and notching around the posts. [insert testimonial of 75 year old]
2. Your wooden posts will be incredibly strong. Unlike using only lag bolts, pounding the metal tube on the anchor into the wood creates an incredibly strong bond that you have to see first hand to fully understand.
3. Your wooden posts will look beautiful. There's no ugly metal brackets or other braces. You'll see the clean natural beauty of whatever wood you choose.
4. You can mount your wooden posts to virtually any surface. I get asked all of the time - can I mount your anchors to cement, rock or vinyl? The answer to all 3 is yes. The beauty of the Titan Post Anchor™ is that it is mounted first to the wooden post and then simply fastened to the decking. This means that it doesn't matter what material you are putting the railing on, as long as you can securely get the lag bolts (or other fasteners) into the decking then you can mount your posts.
5. Your wooden posts will stay dry and last longer. Because the anchor lifts the wooden post off of the surface of the deck, the post will not sit in any water so it won't rot nearly as quickly.
Any water that may sit on the anchor base evaporates quickly - faster than pooling water on a typical deck surface. This means that your posts will last far longer than posts installed with traditional methods.
Given the benefits of Titan Post Anchors™, I think we'd both agree that you'd be silly not to use them -- as long as the price is right...
I know you are probably excited that you've found the solution to your wooden post problems but I also know you are probably concerned or at least curious about how much they cost.
Let's do a quick comparison...
Let's assume you need 15 wooden posts for your project. Titan Post Anchors™ are $18.79 each plus shipping and handling (this includes the lag bolts). This means that Titan Post Anchors™ for your project would cost approximately $300 for your project.
Here's what you have to consider. First there's your time. Titan Post Anchors™ will save you hours versus cutting and notching deck boards to place your posts. This might make the anchors worth the cost alone.
Next consider the lifetime of the deck posts. Being that the Titan Post Anchors™ will raise the anchors off of the deck and prevent rot then your deck posts will conservatively last 5 or 10 years longer than installing them with traditional methods.
I think you'll agree that the benefits of the Titan Post Anchors™ far outweigh the cost.
A Real Life Story
The first Titan Post Anchor ™ was used at a residence in rainy Vancouver, BC where the owner needed to install a gate at the side of the house.
The gate post had to be mounted on a retaining wall set about 5 feet above the next door neighbors yard.
We installed a single unsupported post using the Titan and it was strong enough to hold a 36" wood gate without sagging! And its still going strong.
See what the home owner had to say...
Here's this customer's experience...
"I wanted to install a 36" gate along a walkway beside my house and needed to install a 4x4 post to hang it from.
The only place the post could go was on top of a retaining wall separating my yard from my neighbor's."
"This seemed like an impossible task to come up with some way of attaching a post to the retaining wall strong enough to hold a gate all by itself. And I didn't want to use those big ugly metal post brackets."
"The Titan was the perfect solution. It was super strong. The gate hasn't budged an inch and the post is in perfect condition. No rot or anything. And it rains a lot here."
"The best thing is it has such a finished look. People look at it and wonder how on earth the post is attached so strongly. This is a pretty innovative product."

Say Hello To Longer Post Life!
The Titan lifts the base of the wood post off the deck surface preventing moisture from being wicked up by the capillary action of the wood.
Your wood posts are now maintenance free. Without constant moisture they stay dry and rot free!
The old notch and bolt to the joist method means posts eventually rot at the base in five to ten years. Not with the Titan! No way!

No Finicky Notching of Posts Required
The Old Way
Here's the labor intensive traditional way of installing deck railing posts. Hand cutting, notching, shimming, leveling and bolting to joists only for the post to start rotting as soon as the first rain.
The Easier Way
Step 1
Just cut the post straight and prepare it with a 1-7/8" deep hole saw cut to guide the tube into the core of the post. No carpentry skill required like cutting out notches and shimming.
Step 2
Fit the tube into the circular cut left by the hole saw and drive it into the post using a 3 lbs hammer until the base makes full contact with the post.
Step 3
Use at least 3.5" by 5/16" lag bolts and fasten the base to the post and then you are ready to attach the post to your deck, balcony or patio. You can use up to 3/8" diameter lag bolts but you should drill pilot holes to ensure you don't split the wood.
Step 4
Attach the post with anchor to your deck and enjoy knowing that your posts are strong and free from rot.

No More Ugly Visible Brackets
All you see with the Titan Post Anchor ™ is a neat clean looking black base. The actual anchor is set deep within the core of the post.
Not like these big ugly and obtrusive external metal brackets. They may look OK on a construction site but not for your home!
Raising Performance and Appearance Like Never Before
The Titan Post Anchor™ 4x4 post anchor has performed very well as an internal surface mounting device as compared to other anchors in its class.
Independent lab destruction testing has rated the 4x4 anchor on a 42" post at 337 lbs. Pretty impressive for a single unsupported 42" surface mounted wood post.
And yet the tube was still holding on - wedged in securely - thanks to the friction of the tube walls. Contact us to see the lab tests.
And the 6x6 anchor, well... You guessed it. Even stronger. 503 lbs on a single unsupported 42" wood post! Stay tuned for our ICC rail section testing results in 2011.

The Titan Makes Wood the Material of Choice Once Again
The beauty of wood, espcially clear cedar or redwood is undeniable. But wood can rot over time - some species faster than others - whenever it is in constant contact with moisture.
So wood deck railings have traditionally been susceptible to rotting where the posts were notched and mounted directly to joists.
As a result, many advances in composite decking and railing materials have been brought to the market. But all of them try to do one thing - emulate the look and feel and beauty of real wood.
Why? Because we love real wood. We prefer real wood - if we could.
Confidently Use Real Wood - Again
With the Titan Post Anchor ™ you can now use wood posts - the finest clear cedar or redwood or whatever - and know that your posts are there for a lifetime. And are strong.
Many imitators of the Titan Post Anchor ™ simply do not provide the stiffness and strength required. Step up to the very best deck railing anchor technology.
